Individual Investigator Research Award (IIRA)
Individual Investigator Research Awards are designed to concentrate research in areas with the greatest potential to move toward treatments and cures for the inherited orphan retinal degenerative diseases and dry age-related macular degeneration. This award provides approximately $100,000 per year up to three (3) years. These opportunities seek candidates that hold a Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., D.M.D., D.V.M., D.O., O.D., or equivalent degree and have a faculty position or equivalent at a domestic or foreign: non-profit organization, or public or private institution, such as a university, college, medical school, hospital, research institute, or laboratory. Individuals from underrepresented racial, ethnic and gender groups, as well as individuals with disabilities, are always encouraged to apply.

Ted and Elaine Welp Enhanced Career Development Program Award (Enhanced CDA)
Objective/Goal: The objective of this program is to support the recruitment and retention of a strong pool of physician scientists with a commitment to clinical research on these diseases. Support and protected time will be provided to individuals with M.D. and M.D. /Ph.D. degrees for career development in clinical research leading to research independence in the field of retinal degenerative diseases. This program supports up to two mid-senior level faculty for three (3) years. $170,000/year

Career Development Program (CDA)
Objective/Goal: The goal of this Program is to facilitate advances in laboratory and clinical research, to elucidate the mechanisms for the etiology and pathogenesis of retinal degenerative diseases and to develop innovative strategies to prevent, treat and cure these diseases. This program supports up to five junior-level faculty for five (5) years. $75,000/year

Objective/Goal: The program will provide funding for post-residency clinical fellowships in inherited orphan retinal degenerations. The goal is to increase the number of clinician-scientists with expertise and commitment to provided clinical care to patients with inherited orphan retinal degenerations. This program supports up to three post-residency clinicians for one (1) year. $65,000/year

Alan Laties Career Development Program
The Alan Laties Career Development Program supports physicians’ and physician-scientists’ career development through a multi-level, tiered approach across the duration of their career. Each level represents a new “stage” in the career progression of a physician or physician-scientist, at a point when they can choose a clinical and/or research direction. The Foundation Fighting Blindness’ career development program includes funding support for clinicians, and medical residents in veterinarian studies in retinal degenerations.
